Sources: Shane Beamer targeting an SEC East program for a defensive staff addition (South Carolina)

Sources tell FootballScoop that Shane Beamer is targeting an SEC East assistant coach to join his defensive staff.

Torrian Gray, the corners coach on Dan Mullen's staff at Florida, is being targeted by Beamer to join his South Carolina defensive staff, sources shared with FootballScoop. Gray played his college ball at Virginia Tech with Shane.

Gray has been with the Gators the past two seasons, and also coached in Gainesville during the 2016 season as well.

Prior to his most recent stint with the Gators, he spent two seasons ('17 & 18) with the Washington Redskins and has prior stops coaching at Virginia Tech (2006-15), Chicago Bears (2004-05), and at UConn (2002-03) and Maine (2000-01). With the Hokies, in addition to coaching the secondary, Gray also held the title of passing game coordinator.

Over the weekend, Beamer announced 7 members of his inaugural staff, which included some new additions, as well as key holdovers from the previous staff. Two of those retained from Will Muschamp's staff were on the defensive side of the ball in Mike Peterson (OLBs) and Tracy Rocker (DL).

Florida plays Oklahoma Wednesday night in the Cotton Bowl. We would expect some clarity on this one following the Bowl game.
