SMU is expected to promote Stefan McClure to become the Mustangs' new cornerbacks coach, sources told FootballScoop on Monday.
McClure fills the spot vacated by Kevin Curtis, who left Sunday to coach corners at Baylor. He has been a defensive graduate assistant at SMU since 2019.
The only player in Cal history to serve as a three-time team captain, McClure was an honorable mention All-Pac-12 player as a senior on Sonny Dykes's 2015 team. He joined the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2016 and spent 2017 as a member of the Washington Football Team.
McClure collected numerous honors for his off-field work while in Berkeley. He made the watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy, "college football's premier award for community service" and the AFCA Good Works Team. He also won the Joe Roth Award, given to the Cal Bear who "best exemplifies courage, sportsmanship and attitude."
