Sources: Steve Sarkisian making strong push to hire key LSU assistant (LSU)

As Steve Sarkisian looks to continue to build a strong staff in Austin, we're told that he's going after the lone remaining member of the LSU defensive staff.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Sark has made a very strong offer to bring LSU defensive backs coach Corey Raymond to Texas.

Raymond has been a part of the LSU coaching staff since 2011 and currently serves a the Tigers corners coach and recruiting coordinator. He previously spent a few seasons in Baton Rouge as an intern and assistant strength coach before starting his coaching journey.

Considered a very strong recruiter, Raymond has previous coaching stops at Nebraska, and Utah State between his stints at LSU. He spent a handful of season in the NFL with the Giants and Lions, where he played corner.

LSU parted ways with defensive coordinator Bo Pelini shortly after the season ended. Safeties coach Bill Busch will not return and defensive line coach Bill Johnson is moving into a different role and will not be one of the countable coaches moving forward.

Orgeron is meeting with Cincinnati defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman today and stated on Baton Rouge radio earlier this week Freeman was his primary target for the job. Will be interesting to see if Orgeron can land Freeman; and if they can retain Corey Raymond.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
