With defensive coordinator Ryan Walters off to take the same position at Illinois under Bret Bielema, Eli Drinkwitz had a defensive coordinator opening on his hands.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Steve Wilks will be new defensive coordinator for Drink at Missouri.
Pete Thamel first reported the news this morning.
Wilks spent the 2018 season as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals and was the defensive coordinator for the Browns in 2019.
He left college football in 2005, after serving as an assistant at Bowling Green (2003), Notre Dame (2004) and Washington, and has coached the defensive backs for the Bears, Chargers, and Panthers before becoming the assistant head coach in 2015 in Carolina and added defensive coordinator duties in 2017.
In his one season leading the Arizona Cardinals, the team went 3-13. After he was let go, the Cardinals brought in Kliff Kingsbury.
Wilks also had a one-year stint as the head coach at Savannah State in 1999 where he went 5-6.
Wilks has an opening at defensive line to work with as he builds his defensive staff.
