It's National Signing Day in the world of college football, and new Syracuse coach Fran Brown is working on solidifying the future of his program -- on and off the field.
Sources tell FootballScoop that part of Brown's plan is to add a general manager for the Syracuse program.
Nate McNeal, director of player personnel the past two seasons for Bret Bielema's Illinois football program, will join Brown's Syracuse staff as the program's G.M., sources told FootballScoop.
Brown and McNeal previously worked together at Temple in 2019, when Brown was the Owls' co-defensive coordinator and McNeal was finishing up multiple seasons as that program's director of player personnel.
A former letterwinner at Northern Illinois, McNeal has worked at his alma mater, delivered two separate stints at Illinois and now been positioned for this new oversight role at Syracuse.
McNeal's diverse work background in college football includes multiple roles as a personnel director, as well as high school relations and in video operations. He was viewed as a key cog for Bielema and Illinois as that program reestablished its recruiting bona fides within the state.
