Sources: Jackson State promotes from within for defensive coordinator (Jackson State Football Coaching Staff)

With Jackson State defensive coordinator Jonathan Bradley taking the same job on Major Applewhite's new South Alabama staff, sources tell FootballScoop that head coach TC Taylor is promoting defensive backs coach/pass game coordinator Torenzo Quinn to run the defense.

It'll be Quinn's third coordinator role in his decade-plus in the profession, but his first on defense.

In his first job in coaching, after graduating from Memphis in 2010 and started for two seasons in the Tigers' defensive backfield, he was the offensive coordinator at Ruleville Central High School. Quinn held that job for three seasons before embarking on a college coaching career as a defensive GA at Alcorn.

Quinn's next job came as assistant head coach and defensive pass game coordinator at Arkansas-Pine Bluff for two seasons before returning to the Magnolia State, again as an offensive coordinator, this time at Mississippi Delta Community College in 2021.

He spent one season in that role before taking the safeties job at Alcorn in 2022, then the defensive backs/pass game coordinator job at Jackson State in 2023.

He'll now move one spot forward, sources say, to run a defense that ranked among the top 40 in total and scoring defense in one season under Bradley's direction.

Jackson State went 7-4 in its first season under Taylor in 2023, following Deion Sanders's departure for Colorado.
