Temple is targeting Montana State offensive coordinator Tyler Walker and offensive line coach Al Johnson for the same posts in Philadelphia, sources tell FootballScoop.
Temple is planning to present formal offers to the pair after Montana State competes with North Dakota State for the FCS national title on Monday night, sources say.
Prior winners selected Walker as the FootballScoop FCS Coordinator of the Year. Heading into the title game, the Bobcats are 15-0 with an offense that leads FCS in scoring and red zone offense, and ranks second in rushing and passing efficiency.
Running backs Scottre Humphrey and Adam Jones have both crossed the 1,000 yard threshold on the season, and quarterback Tommy Mellott sits at 993 yards entering the championship game. All three have also rushed for at least 14 touchdowns on the season.
Mellott is a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, the FCS equivalent of the Heisman. He leads FCS in passing efficiency, hitting 69 percent of his 276 passes for 2,564 yards (9.29 per attempt) with 29 touchdowns against two interceptions.
As a team, Montana State averages 41.3 points per game, hit 49 and 52 in their first two playoff games, and has scored at least 31 points in every game to date.
Walker is in his first season as Montana State's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He joined the program in 2021 as director of recruiting, and spent 2022-23 as the Bobcats' tight ends/fullbacks coach. Johnson has been Montana State's O-line coach since 2023.
Temple hired KC Keeler as its head coach last month. Keeler, 65, owns a 271-112-1 career record across four universities, and in 2021 became the first coach to lead two FCS schools to national championships. The Temple post is his first job at the FBS level in any capacity.
As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
