Terry Bowden was named the new head coach at Louisiana-Monroe back on December 23rd. Since then, he has interviewed a number of candidates for key positions on his staff.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Bowden is planning to make Zac Alley his defensive coordinator at ULM.
Alley spent this past season at Boise State, where he served as outside linebackers coach / co-special teams coordinator. He spent the 2019 season coaching the nickels at Charlotte, and the four years before that on the Clemson staff as a graduate assistant where he worked with the defensive tackles and linebackers.
In addition to Alley, we're told that Bowden also plans to bring former ULM player Alonzo Hampton to the staff as defensive backs coach.
Hampton's coaching experience includes stops under Willie Taggart at Western Kentucky, South Florida, Oregon, and Florida State. He spent the 2020 season away from coaching, and the 2019 season as a defensive analyst on the Arkansas staff.
Hampton turned down a few opportunities last past off season to spend time with his family, but now looks to be heading back to college football as a part of Bowden's staff.
Hampton is expected to have the assistant head coach title and responsibilities as well.
Stay tuned to The Scoop as more becomes clear with the ULM staff.
