Sources: Cincinnati losing offensive coordinator to NFL post (tom manning)

Scott Satterfield is still months away from his first game as Cincinnati's head coach, but he's already on the market for his second offensive coordinator.

Sources told FootballScoop on Monday that Bearcats offensive coordinator Tom Manning will leave his newly-acquired post to once again become the Indianapolis Colts' tight ends coach. Bearcat Journal first reported the news of Manning's departure.

Manning spent 2016-17 as the offensive coordinator at Iowa State, then left to spend the 2018 campaign coaching the Colts tight ends. He returned to Ames in 2019 as Iowa State's offensive coordinator, a job he held through the 2022 campaign.

He joined Satterfield's new staff last month, but will now coach the Colts' tight ends instead. It's a rare situation for Manning to coach the same position with the same team under two entirely different regimes. In 2018, he coached under Frank Reich; in 2023, he'll coach under Shane Steichen. Only one tight end, seventh-year player Mo Alie-Cox, remains from the 2018 group.

Manning's departure will send Satterfield back to the drawing board for his first offensive coordinator in Cincinnati.

His offensive coordinator for his final season at Louisville, Lance Taylor, is now the head coach at Western Michigan.
