Sources: Utah State to add Bobby McMillen to defensive staff (Gary Patterson)

After his first two seasons as an on-field assistant coach at New Mexico State, Bobby McMillen is making a move, sources tell FootballScoop.

McMillen is set to reunite with former defensive coordinator Nate Dreiling in Blake Anderson's Utah State program, sources tell FootballScoop Wednesday.

McMillen has been the linebackers coach the past two seasons at New Mexico State and is expected to coach inside linebackers again here under Dreiling.

A former Iowa State linebacker who also logged several seasons on Gary Patterson's former TCU Horned Frogs staffs before the move to New Mexico State, McMillen helped on both special teams and with the TCU running backs during his time in Fort Worth.

Anderson hired away Dreiling from New Mexico State after Dreiling was part of Jerry Kill's remarkable turnaround of that program, which won at SEC program Auburn this past season and closed the 2023 campaign with 10 wins.

The Aggies have earned three-straight bowl berths under Anderson, but dipped below .500 with postseason losses in each of the past two seasons.

Utah State opens its 2024 slate Aug. 31 against FCS program Robert Morris before traveling a week later to face Lincoln Riley's USC Trojans.
