Sources: UTSA hires Power 5 veteran as general manager (mike giglio)

UTSA is expected to hire Mike Giglio as general manager, sources told FootballScoop on Monday. JJ Perez of Inside Runner Sports first reported the news.

Giglio was a longtime lieutenant of Charlie Strong. The pair first worked together when Giglio was a graduate student at Florida and Strong was the Gators' defensive coordinator.

Strong brought Giglio with him to Louisville as his director of high school relations in 2010. There, the staff built a roster that saw the Cardinals go 23-3 in 2012-13, win a Big East championship, and defeat Florida in the Sugar Bowl.

That success earned Strong the Texas job in 2014, and Giglio came along as director of player personnel. It was there that future UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor entered the picture, joining Strong's staff from Gilmer High School as UT's tight ends coach and special teams coordinator in 2015.

In 2017, Giglio again followed Strong to a new job, this one at South Florida. He spent the past six seasons as the Bulls' director of recruiting, remaining in that post under new head coach Jeff Scott from 2020-22.

At UTSA, Giglio will work to continue building a program that has won 23 games over the past two seasons. The Roadrunners exited Conference USA joining Michigan and Utah as the only FBS programs to repeat as conference champions from 2021 to '22. UTSA's first season as an AAC program begins Sept. 2 at Houston.
