Landon Fox, who's helped stabilize the Valparaiso program in Football Championship Subdivision's Pioneer Conference in his four years at the school now has his next defensive coordinator, per sources.
David Marquis, who's guided the defensive unit and coached the secondary at traditional NCAA Division III powerhouse Wittenberg (Ohio) since 2019, has accepted the role of running the Beacons' defense, sources tell FootballScoop on Friday.
For Marquis, it's a return to FCS football; he's previously served on staff at the University of Dayton.
After becoming a student-coach as an undergraduate at Kent State and initiating his career there with the Golden Flashes more than a decade ago, Marquis logged a pair of successful stints on the Wittenberg staff sandwiched around time as a defensive assistant at Randolph-Macon (Virginia).
Valpo has gained footing in the Pioneer League under Fox, who's helped the Northwest Indiana school post multiple .500 or better finishes in conference play since Fox was hired four seasons ago.
The Beacons are slated to open their 2023 season Aug. 31 at longtime FCS power Youngstown State.
