Sources: West Georgia hires bright young OL coach, former Duke player Austin Davis (UWG)

West Georgia seems fully intent on making its transition from NCAA Division II program to FCS resident in 2024 with as much major-college football experience as possible.

After tabbing Dane Stevens from Ole Miss and USC to run the Wolves's offense, UWG now is hiring former Northern Arizona offensive line coach Austin Davis into the same position.

New UWG coach Joel Taylor has continued to assemble a strong staff, with Stevens and David Whitlow both coming from Ole Miss last week.

Davis played at Duke under legendary coach David Cutcliffe; the former offensive lineman was a four-year letterwinner for the Blue Devils. He signed an undrafted free agent deal with the NFL's Green Bay Packers after his collegiate career.

He also worked multiple seasons as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, served in a similar capacity at ACC rival North Carolina State -- and served as the Wolfpack's interim offensive line coach during the 2022 bowl season.

Davis was NAU's offensive line coach for the 2023 season.
