Eastern Illinois offensive coordinator Joe Davis is expected to be the next head coach at Western Illinois, sources told FootballScoop on Sunday. ESPN's Pete Thamel first reported the news.
Davis spent two seasons coordinating the offense and coaching quarterbacks at EIU. Prior to that, he spent 2018-21 as the associate head coach and offensive coordinator at Albany, where he helped the Great Danes set 21 school records in his four seasons. The former Adrian College quarterback began his coaching career in Austria in 2003.
He has previous coordinator experience at Northern Iowa, Shippensburg University, Wheaton College, and Wayne State University.
Western Illinois slogged through an 0-11 season in the rough-and-tumble Missouri Valley Football Conference. Head coach Myers Henderickson was let go on Nov. 19.
Davis inherits a 24-game losing streak; the Leathernecks last enjoyed a winning season in 2017.
