Update >> WIU has announced the hire.
Sources tell FootballScoop that first-year head coach Joe Davis has made another hire on the offensive side of the ball as he marches toward completing his inaugural staff at Western Illinois (FCS).
Vincent Jeffries Jr. is joining the offensive staff and will work with the receivers, sources share. He brings experience in the Big Ten and ACC with him to his first full-time role with the FCS program.
Jeffries just wrapped up his second season as an offensive graduate assistant with the Illini this past fall, helping the Illini to an 8-5 mark in 2022.
Prior to joining Bret Bielema's staff in Champaign, Jeffries spent a season on staff as an offensive assistant for Dave Doeren at NC State.
The former Florida A&M (FCS) quarterback, who was a semifinalist for the academically prestigious William V, Campbell Trophy in 2017 awarded to a top performing college athlete, started his coaching career at Garner Magnet (Garner, NC), where he mentored the quarterbacks and served as passing game coordinator.
He's set to join a staff that has recently added Dan McKeown (DC), Brad Wilson (OC, and Cole Hoover (TEs), among a few others.
