Sources: Newly-hired Western Kentucky WRs coach leaving for South Florida (Western Kentucky Football Coaching Staff)

L'Damian Washington is joining the South Florida staff, sources told FootballScoop on Thursday.

Washington spent 2022 as the interim wide receivers coach, taking over the position room in August after Cale Gundy's surprise resignation.

That experience earned him the Western Kentucky wide receivers job, a position he took just last month.

Washington will replace South Florida wide receivers coach Matthew Middleton, whom FootballScoop first reported earlier this week will become the new wide receivers coach at Kansas State.

A former Missouri wide receiver, Washington lost both parents at a young age and turned his experience into a career as a motivational speaker. He signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2014 and played professionally until 2020 in the NFL, the CFL, the Alliance of American Football and the XFL.

Washington's first collegiate coaching role came as the wide receivers coach at Southern in 2021. He also spent two seasons as a middle school head coach in Columbia, Mo.
