Sources: Western Michigan makes move at GM (Cam Allen)

Consider it a new time in college football: general manager season.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Western Michigan coach Lance Taylor is promoting Cam Allen to the role of general manager.

Previously, Allen had served as Western Michigan’s executive director of player personnel and recruiting.

He is preparing for his new role as Western Michigan enters 2025 on the heels of the program’s first bowl bid under Taylor.

The Broncos have navigated the Name, Image and Likeness landscape very effectively, among the best in the MAC, and Allen has been a key part of that.

It was roughly a year ago that WMU lost the well-regarded Gaizka Ansola-Crowley to a Power Conference GM post at Arizona.

Taylor has clearly made strong hires and moves in his first head coaching post. He’s seen two defensive coordinators poached by Power programs and former offensive coordinator Billy Cosh landed an FCS head coaching gig after Year 1.

Taylor pulled former Notre Dame colleague Chris O’Leary from the NFL’s Los Angeles Chargers last month to become the program’s new defensive coordinator.

Just last week, offensive line coach Trevor Mendelson was hired away by the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars.

Western is scheduled to open its 2025 season Aug. 30 at in-state foe Michigan State, which is entering Year 2 under Jonathan Smith.
