Austin Proehl, a former standout wide receiver at the University of North Carolina who was drafted into the NFL, now is climbing the collegiate coaching ranks.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Wingate University is hiring Proehl to Rashaan Jordan's staff.
The son of former longtime NFL standout Ricky Proehl, Austin Proehl is set to coach wide receivers for the Bulldogs, per sources.
Wingate, an NCAA Division II program that competes in the South Atlantic Conference, is entering its first season with Jordan at the helm of the program.
For Proehl, the wideout group is a natural coaching spot. After playing for the Tar Heels from 2014-17, Proehl was drafted into the NFL by the Buffalo Bills.
The 5-foot-9, 179-pounder then bounced around the NFL, spending time with the Bills, Tennessee Titans, Los Angeles Rams, then-San Diego Chargers and also the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants.
Additionally, Proehl played professionally with the Seattle Dragons and the St. Louis Battlehawks in the XFL.
Wingate, which elevated Jordan earlier this year after he spent a decade as the program's defensive coordinator, is slated to open its 2024 season Aug. 31 at UNC-Pembroke.
