Southwest Mississippi has named its new head coach, and it is a familiar face for the Bears program.
Cliff Collins, who both played for the Bears prior to concluding his career at Ole Miss and later was an assistant in the Southwest program, was named Wednesday as the next head coach.
The junior college program last month had dismissed coach Tim Stowers and staff as the program slumped through a 23-game losing streak.
“Our offense will be fast and explosive,” Collins, a Gloster, Mississippi, native, said in a release. “The defense will be physical and tough, and we will be sound in special teams.”
Collins most recently was East Mississippi's defensive coordinator through the past four seasons. Collins has more than 15 years' experience of collegiate coaching in the state of Mississippi.
