Just a few seasons ago, Steve Sarkisian was an NFL play caller with the Atlanta Falcons.
Many have speculated that after building Texas back into a consistent national title contender - something the past several Longhorn head coaches fell well short of - that Sark would head back to the NFL after a few teams expressed interest and the NFL openings included a vacancy with the Dallas Cowboys.
However, Sark is reportedly staying put and signing a contract extension in Austin.
Brett McMurphy shares that Sark, who made $10,3 million in 2024 on a deal that currently takes him through the 2030 season, has agreed to a contract extension after declining interview opportunities with two NFL teams.
The news of a contract extension on the way is hardly breaking news for the coaching veteran, who has led a quick Texas' revival, going 5-7 in year one before a jump to 8-5 in year two.
Year three culminated in a Big 12 title, winning the conference for the final time as they set off for the SEC while winning 12 games, and he followed that up with a 13-3 record this past fall in their first season as an SEC member.
Sarkisian has led the Longhorns to back-to-back semifinal appearances in the College Football Playoff and an impressive 25-5 record over the past two seasons with championship game appearances in both the Big 12 and SEC title games.
