Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian underwent heart surgery last Thursday, the Crimson Tide announced in a statement on Tuesday.
The program said an issue with Sarkisian's heart emerged as part of the coaching staff's annual physical.
Sarkisian is now back home and "is expected to make a full recovery."
Sarkisian, 46, is entering his second season as Alabama's offensive coordinator and his third total on the staff, having served as an offensive analyst and interim coordinator in the 2016 campaign.
Alabama is slated to open its season at AT&T Stadium against USC on Sept. 5.
