Add another branch to Jason Simpson's football coaching tree.
And it's another limb extending to the NFL.
Matt Jones, who spent the previous four season on Simpson's UT-Martin staff, is joining the Tennessee Titans' franchise as assistant offensive line coach.
During his time with Simpson and the Skyhawks, who set new single-season records for wins, advancing into the Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs and garnered consecutive Ohio Valley Conference titles, Jones helped coach the UTM offensive line and serve as running game coordinator.
Simpson has nearly 20 former assistants at FBS/Power 5 programs and more than 10 in the NFL coaching ranks.
For Jones, his move to the NFL continues a remarkable career arc that saw his earliest coaching at the high school level following a playing career at Eastern Illinois.
Jones also has coached at Tulane, Villanova, Texas Southern and his alma mater among other stops.
The Titans are transitioning to new offensive coordinator Tim Kelly, whom Mike Vrabel promoted from within to replace the fired Todd Downing.
