Texas A&M-Kingsville head coach Mike Salinas stepping away for new role (Texas A&M Kingsville)

Mike Salinas led his Javelinas squad to an impressive 7-4 season this year, including a 6-3 mark in conference play.

Even more impressively, he managed to do that while also juggling duties as the interim athletic director following the September departure of Steve Roach after six years for a deputy AD role at Elon (FCS).

Now Salinas stepping away from his football team after five seasons for a new challenge.

The school has announced Salinas is shedding the interim AD title and being named to the permanent post.

In five seasons leading the Javelinas, Salinas went 26-19.

A former three-year letterman for the program, he leaves the post on a high note, after leading the team to three-straight seven-win seasons, a first for the program dating back to 2004.

Defensive coordinator Jamison Bisch, who is in his second season with the team, has been named interim football coach for the Javelinas, effective immediately.
