Terry Price, a standout Texas A&M player, a celebrated coach, and a beloved husband and father, died on Friday. Details of his passing were unknown at press time. He was 55 years old.
“Terry was not only a great Aggie, football coach and recruiter, he was an even better husband, father and man,” Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher said. “The impact he had on this program and his players is immeasurable. Our football family has suffered an incredible loss. We will continue to hold Kenya and the boys in our thoughts and prayers.”
Born in Atlanta, Price graduated from Plano High School, north of Dallas, and signed with Texas A&M in 1986. One of the most accomplished players in one of the Aggies' most successful eras, Price played on A&M teams that went 34-14 as a four-year letterman. An All-Southwest Conference pick and an honorable mention Sporting News All-American as a senior, Price twice led the Aggies' D-line in tackles and helped the club win back-to-back SWC championships as a freshman and sophomore.
A 10th-round pick in the 1990 draft, Price played two seasons for the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins, then returned to Aggieland to finish his sociology degree and begin his coaching career.
He started as a volunteer assistant at Texas A&M in 1992, then earned a full-time role as the defensive line and strength coach at Western Kentucky in 1994. From there, Price became the defensive line coach at Ole Miss, Auburn, and Texas Tech before returning to Aggieland in 2012, where he remained through the duration of his career. His defensive lines helped the Aggies post a No. 5 final ranking in 2012 and a No. 4 ranking in 2020, two of the highest finishes in school history.
At A&M, Price coached First Team All-American end Damontre Moore, a unanimous All-American in Myles Garrett, and an All-SEC end in Landis Durham. He coached 14 eventual NFL draft picks. Price was universally acknowledged as one of the top recruiters in college football.
More importantly, Price was a husband to Kenya and the father of Alexander and Devin. Devin Price played wide receiver for Texas A&M for the past three seasons before transferring to Florida Atlantic this offseason. Alexander and Devin each received degrees from Texas A&M last month. In 2021, the Bryan-College Station Eagle profiled Price's accomplishments as a barbecue pitmaster.
On behalf of the entire FootballScoop staff, please join us in lifting the Prices and the Texas A&M football program in prayer and well wishes.
RIP to Coach Price aka TP. One of the greatest to ever do it man. The guy that taught me the attitude of a SEC DLineman. He gave me real shot also inspired me to be pit-master. Thank you for everything you done for me & the game. Love you OG❤️
