What started as a TikTok trend has made it's way to high school sports, and a Texas high school has now found themselves the topic of controversy.
Last week, Willis HS (TX) beat Cleveland HS (TX) handily, by a score of 77-0.
That score should simply be a small story over the weekend as both teams turn the page to the next week, but that's now what has transpired.
A few players for Willis HS decided to bring belts to the handshake line and playfully (and disrespectfully) slap players from Cleveland on their behinds on their way past each other.
It's apparently part of a social media trend where the video is paired with a "Belt to Ass" clip from a song.
In the video, players can be seen with the belts with coaches directly behind them.
A statement that Willis HS released reads:
We are deeply disappointed by the unsportsmanlike conduct displayed by some of our football players...we are committed to ensuring it does not happen again.
Willis announced that the athletes involved will be suspended for the first half of their game today, will be required to complete community service, and have been subject of additional disciplinary measures during football practices, the statement goes on to share.
