It has been reported that Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells has tested positive for COVID-19.
The statement from Texas Tech said that Wells will preform his duties remotely from this point forward. He has entered the Big 12's COVID protocols and is currently self-isolating at home. Wells will be continually tested in order to confirm the positive test result.
If Wells' positive test is confirmed, in his absence defensive coordinator Keith Patterson will take over responsibilities for Saturday's game against Kansas. It is the Red Raiders last scheduled game. No changes have been made to the game as a result of Wells' positive test.
It is believed that he is at least the 21st FBS coach to test positive this season but only the second in the Big 12. Les Miles was the first Big 12 coach to test positive.
