The Division III Playoff bracket is set

The teams in pursuit of Stagg Bowl XLVII has been officially set.

The top seeds include some familiar names - defending champs Mary Hardin-Baylor (who also finished runner up in 2018), Mount Union (the runner up in 2019 and winner in 2018), Salisbury (MD), and Wheaton (IL).

In total, nine undefeated teams made the field, highlighted by Salisbury's portion of the bracket with three undefeated teams in total.

Five at-large bids were given out by the committee, but John Carroll, who went 9-1 with their only loss coming against #1 Mount Union, were left on the outside looking in this year. Susquehanna (PA) was another 1-loss team with a legit argument to be included in the field, but at the end of the day didn't make the cut. Meanwhile, SUNY Maritime managed to make the field with a 5-5 record.

Programs like Mount Union, UW-Whitewater, and Mary Hardin-Baylor have dominated the road to the Stagg Bowl in recent years, and teams hoping to buck that trend will have an uphill battle again this year as those teams are always primed to be playing some of their best football about this time of year.

The Stagg Bowl will be played December 20th at Woodforest Bank Stadium in Shenandoah, TX. The next two years the game will head to the snowy tundra of Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, OH to cap the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
