The Jets have fired Adam Gase (New York Jets)

The New York Jets announced this evening they have fired head coach Adam Gase.

Yesterday, Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero shared that the Jets planned to look deeply at college candidates as well as NFL candidates.

Their report adds to "expect a lengthy and thorough search" and names college coaches like Matt Campbell (Iowa State), Jim Harbuagh (Michigan) and Dan Mullen (Florida) among the candidates that are slated to garner consideration.

NFL names mentioned are Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy, Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, Ravens defensive coordinator Don "Wink" Martindale, Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley.

Gase spent two seasons at the helm, going 7-9 in year one before going 2-14 . The team had won two straight, effectively losing the top overall draft pick, largely expected to be Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

Before landing the Jets job, Gase led the Miami Dolphins for three seasons, going 23-25 there.

Overall, as an NFL head coach, Gase went 32-48.

He previously served as offensive coordinator for the Broncos and and Bears before landing the head coaching job in Miami.
