The Seattle Seahawks have continued their public service project by releasing their latest tackling instruction video, which is an update of their original 2014 video.
Pete Carroll opens the video explaining that his club emphasizes shoulder contact -- and, thus, de-emphasizes head contact -- in blocking, tackling and block protection. "We believe shoulder contact is the future of football," he says.
I won't break the video down frame by frame (Doug did an outstanding job of that for last year's edition), but suffice to say the Seahawks teach a form of contact that emphasizes pad level and leverage, leading with the shoulder and striking below the neck and above the knee.
Unfortunately the video is not embeddable (thanks, NFL!), so set aside seven and a half minutes for this link.
In an age where coaches consistently lament that football is under attack, both at the top and the bottom. Kudos to Carroll and the Seahawks for doing something to further the game's future.
