Northern Illinois head coach Thomas Hammock has enjoyed quite the year.
Not only did his Huskies pull off the upset of the season in their win over Notre Dame, a win that provided quite the spotlight for his program the next several weeks, but he's also now reportedly fielding interest from NFL teams.
According to Ian Rapoport, at least three teams have called about Hammock with interest for him to coach running backs or serve as pass game coordinator.
A college coaching veteran with stops at Wisconsin and Minnesota in addition to Northern Illinois as an assistant, Hammock spent a few seasons in the NFL with the Ravens before leaving John Harbaugh's staff to take over at his alma mater.
He's led the program to bowl games in three of their last four seasons, including a 7-win season last year and an 8-win campaign this past fall to improve to 32-38 overall in DeKalb.
Hammock currently makes just over $708k a year at NIU, ranking 113th out of 125 schools that reported their head coaching salaries for the USA Today salary database for 2024.
Back in 2021, in the midst of a 6-3 season where they would go on to finish 9-5, Hammock inked a contract extension at the school taking him through the 2026-27 academic year.
Earlier this season, back in September Marcus Freeman and the Irish lost to Hammock and NIU, the Huskies head coach extended an offer to share what he and his staff saw, and took advantage of, in their upset win.
One could argue that helped push Notre Dame forward, as Freeman humbly took Hammock up on the offer, and the Irish went undefeated the rest of the way before eventually falling to Ohio State in the national title game earlier this week.
