Todd Hartley -- 2023 FootballScoop Tight Ends Coach of the Year

Developed by Todd Hartley, Brock Bowers put a cap on one of the best college careers a tight end has ever had.

FootballScoop is proud to announce that Todd Hartley (Georgia) is the 2023 FootballScoop Tight Ends Coach of the Year presented by AstroTurf.

In a period that saw Georgia become the premier program in college football, tight end Brock Bowers will be remembered as the best Bulldog of his time -- and, thus, one of the best players in college football during his specific time as a collegian, and one of the best Bulldogs of all time.

After leading Georgia in catches and receiving yards as a freshman and a sophomore, Bowers did so again as a junior in 2023.

In 10 games, Bowers collected 56 receptions for 714 yards and six touchdowns. Battling injuries for much of the season, he shined during a 3-game stretch that saw him catch nine balls for 121 yards and two touchdowns against UAB, snare eight passes for 157 yards and a score in a tight win at Auburn, and collect seven passes for 132 yards and a score in a blowout of Kentucky.

His 5.6 catches and 71.4 yards per game led all tight ends in college football.

With Bowers out battling an ankle injury, sophomore Oscar Delp stepped up and performed admirably. For the year Delp caught 21 passes for 253 yards and three touchdowns.

Bowers was one of 14 players named a unanimous All-American, won the Mackey Award as the nation's top tight end for a second straight season, the first to do so. He was a three time First Team All-American for ESPN, The Athletic and USA Today, a two-time consensus All-American, and a three-time All-SEC honoree.

Coaches of the Year - 2023

A Georgia graduate, Hartley returned to his alma mater in 2019 and added assistant head coach duties ahead of this season. He GA'd at West Virginia and Georgia, then coached safeties at Marshall in 2011-12 before moving to tight ends. Hartley returned to Georgia as director of player personnel before coaching tight ends and special teams at Miami from 2016-18.

The FootballScoop Coaches of the Year awards presented by AstroTurf are the only set of awards that recognize the most outstanding position coaches in college football. The finalists (James Finley [Colorado State], Grant Newsome [Michigan] and Hartley) were selected based off of nominations by coaches, athletic directors, and athletic department personnel.

Hartley (Georgia) won the inaugural FootballScoop Tight Ends Coach of the Year award in 2021. Freddie Whittingham (Utah) won the honor in 2022.
