We're in for a once-in-a-lifetime viewing experience tonight -- it damn well better be just once -- as the NFL conducts its draft remotely. Instead of descending upon Las Vegas, the league will be scattered across the country, with each team making picks from home, coordinating remotely both amongst themselves and each other.
Lions general manager Bob Quinn will have the club's IT guy parked in an RV in his driveway, while Seahawks GM John Schneider had two walls knocked down so he could monitor all draft activity through a comically excessive 25-screen set-up.
In Dallas, Jerry Jones is giddy with anticipation at the fact that no one will be in front of him to draft whoever he damn well pleases.
Even Roger Goodell himself is playing by the same rules as the rest of us. (Good job by NFL PR guy Brian McCarthy to get NFL sponsor Microsoft in the shot here.)
One person who will unfortunately not be involved in tonight's extravaganza is Todd McShay.
ESPN's 1B -- or is he 1A now? -- draft guy announced Thursday in a Twitter note that he will not take part in the network's coverage as he recuperates from COVID-19. His infection was previously unknown until now.
Here's hoping a swift recovery for McShay so he can be on-set for ESPN's 2021 draft coverage in Cleveland.
