According to this video from KHOU out of Houston, Tom Herman and Houston housekeeping supervisor Anthony Clark crossed paths on campus quite a bit, and each time Herman saw Clark he was hard at work grinding away with that same passion and attention to detail that Herman tries to instill in his players.
One day Herman told Clark that he's been seeing him around a lot cleaning, and doing a variety of other things, and he'd like to help Clark fix his smile. That's not it. Herman also offered to foot the bill for the expensive oral surgery.
Clark, a native of Trinidad and Tabago, had a set of teeth that even he admits in the interview made him say, "Man, I'm ugly. Oh man, I was looking horrible."
Herman said that Clark took charge from there, went and got an estimate that was "really high," so Herman went and met with the dentists and they agreed on a figure that they could meet in the middle on.
Why did Herman do it?
"I just like rewarding people that work hard," Herman noted when asked about the gesture.
"It's really, really gratifying to know that you can change people's lives, that deserve it."
Herman, who famously had rapper Paul Wall make him a grill last year that he proudly wore around, should now officially carry the title of #GrillMaster.
