Despite a slow start with no first quarter and a seven point deficit against Western Michigan, the Iowa offense started clicking, we're back for a week three update on Brian Ferentz's contract objectives as his quest to lead the program to at least 325 points (currently at 85 points through three games) and seven wins this season continues.
Finishing the day with 41 points, the Hawkeyes overcame their slow start with a 14-point second quarter, 17 point third quarter, and a 10 point final period.
The Hawkeyes worked with favorable field position most of the night, with that first touchdown drive being the only one that traveled more than 60-yards.
This weekend marked the first time this season the Iowa offense went over 300-yards, as they put up 387 yards of total offense in the win.
Getting on track offensively was critical, as Iowa will travel to Happy Valley to face Penn State in their next game before home games against Michigan State and Purdue before hitting the road again for Wisconsin.
As a reminder, the school and Brian agreed to a new contract back in February following a disappointing 2022 season offensively for the Hawkeyes.
The new amendments to his contract dropped his pay from $900,000 annually to $850,000 for the 2023 season, and to keep his rolling two-year deal now requires the team to average at least 25 points per game this fall and win at least 7 games.
Failure to meet those objectives means that his contract will end on June 30th, 2024.
If Iowa is able to hit those standards, he would be eligible to receive a one-time lump sum bonus of $112,500 and his salary would get bumped to $925,000 for the 2024 season.
Stay tuned, as we will continue to provide updates on the objectives of Brian's contract each week throughout the season.
