Tre Lamb is the new head coach at Tulsa. Emphasis on new.
The 35-year-old is brand-spanking-new to Tulsa, to Oklahoma, and to generally the entire United States west of Cookeville, Tenn. A Calhoun, Ga., native, Lamb played at Tennessee Tech and coached at his alma mater, Mercer, Gardner-Webb and East Tennessee State before the Golden Hurricane hired him last month.
Lamb and Tulsa had the customary press conference to introduce the coach to the public last month, but that setting allowed Tulsa fans to get to know Lamb the person. It's not really the right format to introduce Lamb the coach.
And so Lamb, Tulsa, and the Tulsa media did something smart this week.
The coach got a local TV station on the whiteboard to give a 101 version of how a Tre Lamb-coached Tulsa Golden Hurricane squad will look.
If you're wondering, the words next to the play are Lamb's keys to a successful offense.

1. Value the football (Don't beat Tulsa)
2. Find 12 explosives
3. Win rushing battle
4. Score 1st

Appreciate coach Lamb for all his time. This was fun. pic.twitter.com/i8zrClZqo6
This is smart public-relations that every new coach should be doing, from Ohio State on down. Fans absolutely crave this stuff, and letting the public behind the curtain can only help bond the fans to the coach. It's particularly smart at a place like Tulsa, where the general public isn't coming to you -- not with the Sooners, the Cowboys and the Thunder also in the market -- and so you must go to them.
And so this fall, when Tulsa runs its first wide-zone insert with a backside RPO, KTUL viewers can be Leo in his La-Z-Boy.
