The coaching carousel has already claimed a number of coaches in just their second season with their respective programs.
Trent Dilfer at UAB will not be another one.
Dilfer, who has gone 7-17 leading the Blazers program, will return for a third season.
After starting the year 1-0 following a win over FCS Alcorn State, the Blazers went on a six-game losing streak that included a 71-20 loss to Tulane and a 44-10 loss to Army. He went 3-9 this past season, and went 4-8 in his debut season.
Dilfer, who is now 7-17 overall, took over a UAB team coming off a 7-6 season that ended with momentum after a win in the Bahamas Bowl.
The former NFL quarterback was hired right from the high school ranks after going 44-10 at Lipscomb Academy (TN).
He signed a five-year deal at that point that pays him $6 million over the course of the deal. If the school had decided to make a change after December 1st, Dilfer would have be owed a buyout of about $4.1 million
