Tulane hires veteran coach Greg McMahon as special teams coordinator (greg mcmahon)

Tulane has hired Greg McMahon as special teams coordinator, the program announced Wednesday.

McMahon spent 2022 and '23 in Houston, coordinating special teams for the USFL's Houston Gamblers and the XFL's Houston Roughnecks.

Prior to that, McMahon spent five seasons at LSU -- one as a special teams consultant and four as special teams coordinator. He was a member of LSU's 2019 national championship team. He also spent 2008-16 as the New Orleans Saints special teams coordinator, helping the club to a Super Bowl title in the 2009 season.

McMahon played at Eastern Illinois and entered coaching at his alma mater in 1982. He also coordinated special teams for Illinois and East Carolina.

McMahon replaces Robby Discher, a former FootballScoop Special Teams Coordinator of the Year who took the special teams position at Illinois earlier this year.

The defending American and Cotton Bowl champions hired Mike Krysl as a special teams analyst earlier this spring.
