UCF hires former Oklahoma defensive coordinator Ted Roof (Oklahoma)

Ted Roof and Gus Malzahn previously won a national title together at Auburn back in 2011 and are now reuniting.

Malzahn announced Roof, who spent the past two seasons coordinating the defense under Brent Venables at Oklahoma, as his new defensive coordinator at UCF today.

Roof and the Sooners mutually agreed to part ways a few weeks back.

The hire means that UCF moves Addison Williams to co-defensive coordinator and has elevated him to associate head coach as well.

Roof is a three-time nominee for the Broyles Award, and has also led the top ranked rush defense in the league at three different institutions.

Back in December of 2011, Roof briefly joined the UCF staff under former head coach George O'Leary, but left after just a few weeks for the defensive coordinator opportunity at Penn State.

The college coaching veteran has previous stops as a coordinator at Georgia Tech, Minnesota, NC State, Appalachian State, and Vandy in addition to Auburn, Penn State and Oklahoma.
