Robert Thomas was a standout linebacker for the Bruins from 1998-2001, and was a teammate of new UCLA head coach DeShaun Foster.
According to a report from 247 over the weekend, Thomas is set to join the staff as linebackers coach.
He most recently coached at some of the top high school programs in the state.
Thomas, who was an All-American in his final year with the program and went on to an eight-year career in the NFL, ahs spent time coaching linebackers at both Santa Ana Mater Dei (CA) and Mission Viejo HS (CA).
In 2015, while Jim Mora was the head coach of the Bruins, Thomas had a role with the program as a student assistant.
The addition of Thomas pairs him with defensive coordinator Ikaika Malloe, defensive line coach Tony Washington, corners coach Kodi Whitfield and safeties coach Brian Norwood to round out the defensive side of the ball heading into Foster's first season.
