The Arkansas offensive coordinator job has officially been open for a week now, but Razorbacks head coach Bret Bielema has known of Jim Chaney's desire to leave Fayetteville for close to a month now. Chaney pursued the Texas A&M offensive line job (presumably with Bielema's knowledge - and perhaps with his encouragement), which was filled by former Utah offensive coordinator Dave Christensen on Christmas night.
With that said, Bielema's search for a new offensive coordinator has been quiet. Almost as quiet on the college front as Georgia's offensive coordinator, which ended with Brian Schottenheimer leaving the St. Louis Rams, so perhaps Arkansas' quest could end in a similar direction. Sources tell FootballScoop, Bielema is considering at least one NFL coach for the position, and we hear the Head Hog has also recently discussed the linebackers job with an NFL assistant who is out of work at this time due to a head coaching change.
Scott discussed the Arkansas offensive coordinator job on FootballScoop Radio last night. One college assistant that we have heard Bielema has considered is Georgia's tight ends coach John Lilly. Given how quiet this search has been though, we do wonder if Bielema plans to follow in Georgia's footsteps and hire an NFL assistant for his run-heavy offensive coordinator position. Give it a listen below.
With things about to happen, make sure you're tuned into The Scoop for the latest.
