Sources tell FootballScoop the Mississippi State search has been wide ranging.
Director of athletics John Cohen has been on the move, going to, or meeting candidates on the road. At this time, it appears a hire could come as soon as today, and the search is not expected to continue on past tomorrow.
Although most coaches we heard from early on expected State to have already had their man in hand before terminating the contract of Joe Moorhead, sources tell FootballScoop this has been a true search.
This morning we reported that Cohen met with Joe Judge yesterday. He is meeting with the New York Giants today. Source tells FootballScoop Mississippi State believes they have a very strong chance at landing Judge as their next head coach. Florida defensive coordinator Todd Grantham is likewise viewed as a strong candidate.
Sources tell FootballScoop Cohen has spoken with both Army head coach Jeff Monken and Air Force head coach Troy Calhoun. Additionally, we have heard and ESPN's Adam Rittenberg is reporting that former Auburn head coach Gene Chizik is in it as well.
Additionally, sources tell FootballScoop at least two non power five head coaches have spoken with Cohen about the job.
This hire is coming, and coming soon. Stay tuned.
