Update on Urban Meyer and Texas (Featured)

Texas has moved on from Urban Meyer in our fictional universe but, here in the real world, the Longhorns remain very much in pursuit of the three-time national champion head coach.

In fact, Orangebloods reported Wednesday morning that Kevin Eltife, chairman of the UT Board of Regents, flew to Columbus to meet with Meyer, returning to Texas earlier today.

It remains to be seen if Meyer takes the job and the future Hall of Fame coach may very well pass on the opportunity. However, the feeling in Austin is that if the idea of returning to coaching was a complete non-starter for Meyer, talks never would have progressed to the point where the head of the UT system hops on an airplane in the first place.

In the meantime, Tom Herman is still employed as the Longhorns' head coach and will remain so through Meyer's next appearance on Fox's Big Noon Kickoff. Meyer has not and will not comment publicly on a job that is not open, so it will be interesting to see how the show approaches the topic on Saturday morning, if at all.

The prospect of Meyer returning to coaching has, to make a gross understatement, been the topic of much rumor and speculation inside the coaching community. FootballScoop has spoken with a number of sources in the profession who have offered a variety of opinions on whether Meyer will take the job, but ultimately only Meyer can know if he has a second return to the sidelines in him.

And Texas is determined to find out, one way or the other.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
