Utah State defensive coordinator Ephraim Banda is set to take a role with the Cleveland Browns, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported Tuesday. Banda will be the Browns' safeties coach.
Once the move is completed, Aggies head coach Blake Anderson will have to replace both coordinators heading into his third season with the program. Over the weekend, offensive coordinator Anthony Tucker took a co-coordinator role with Indiana.
Banda was an original hire to Anderson's Utah State staff as defensive coordinator and safeties coach.
The Browns position will be Banda's entry into the NFL. The San Antonio native started coaching as a student assistant at Incarnate Word in 2011, then GA'd under Manny Diaz at Texas from 2012-14. He followed Diaz to Mississippi State as a quality control coach, then moved on the field as safeties coach when Diaz became the Hurricanes' defensive coordinator in 2016. He became The U's co-defensive coordinator in 2019.
As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
Banda will coach the safeties for the Browns, per sources. He coached safeties at Miami from 2016-20, including the final two years as the co-defensive coordinator there.
