UTSA places defensive coordinator on administrative leave

UTSA has placed defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix on administrative leave amid an internal investigation. The school made the announcement during the Roadrunners' game with UTEP. Nix is not coaching in the game.

"Tyrone Nix has been placed on administrative leave in connection with an internal investigation," UTSA said in a statement. "In order to ensure and protect the integrity of the process, we will not be making any additional comments at this time."

Nix is in his first season running the UTSA defense on first-year head coach Jeff Traylor's staff. He previously coordinated defenses for South Carolina, Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee. He coached Ole Miss's outside linebackers in 2019.

UTSA has four coaches on the defensive side of the ball, and defensive line coach Rod Wright is the only assistant to carry a coordinator title (run game coordinator) aside from Nix. Jess Loepp coaches the safeties while serving as recruiting coordinator and Nick Graham coaches the team's cornerbacks.
