It's not often you see a head coach of a team return later as an assistant, but that's going to be the case in Denver.
Former Broncos head coach Vance Joseph is returning as defensive coordinator, according to a report Thursday from NFL Network.
The job is Joseph's second homecoming of sorts. The Louisiana native played college ball at Colorado and, after a brief NFL career, starting coaching for his alma mater from 1999-03.
Joseph climbed the ranks for the next decade and a half before landing the Denver Broncos head coaching job in 2017. He was let go after two seasons, going 11-21. The club replaced him with Vic Fangio (19-30 in three seasons) and Nathaniel Hackett (4-11, fired before the end of his first and only season) before new ownership hired Sean Payton, for whom Joseph will now work.
Joseph has spent the past four years as Kliff Kingsbury's defensive coordinator with the Arizona Cardinals.
As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
