Veteran ACC assistant reportedly set to take over NAIA program (brad sherrod)

Texas Wesleyan, one of just four NAIA football programs in The Lone Star State, has found a new head coach who brings an impressive resume.

Brad Sherrod, who has experience at the Power Four level with over a decade at Duke (his alma mater) as well as a few seasons at Wake Forest, is set to become the new head coach at Texas Wesleyan, per Dave Campbell's Texas Football.

At Duke, he worked on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, working with the linebackers for nine years before moving to tight ends and then running backs for his final two seasons.

Sherrod most recently spent the past three seasons as part of Jeff Traylor's staff at UTSA coaching the linebackers.

He spent the 2020 season at the FCS level at Tennessee State and also spent three seasons at Wake Forest working with the outside linebackers

Sherrod also has successful Division I coordinator experience, first as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Sam Houston State before he was elevated to the defensive play caller role after two seasons. Previous stops include Elon, Delaware, Western Carolina, East Tennessee State and UMass.

Texas Wesleyan not only marks his first head coaching opportunity, but it's also his first stop at the NAIA level as well, and he's walking into a solid situation.

Sherrod will take the place of Joe Prud'homme, who led the team to a 24-7 record over the last three seasons, including an 8-2 mark last fall.

The program, which recently relaunched under Prud'homme back in 2017, is working to complete a nearly $17 million on-campus facility, and the hire of Sherrod will certainly add a renewed excitement as they continue to raise money and build a roster.
