Long before they had a fire t-shirt to go along with the nickname (read more about the origins of the nickname here), Nebraska’s stingy defense had long been coined “the Blackshirts.”
It’s a design element that the Huskers have played with over the years, wearing a black uniform top back in 2013 under Bo Pelini, and it is officially making a comeback.
The new ones are a much cleaner look compared to the ones worn back in 2013, complete with the skull and crossbones that fervent Blackshirt fans will recognize from the program’s glory days.
The design is simple, but the message that Nebraska believes they’re getting closer and closer to being the Nebraska program the loyal fanbase has been wanting to get back to for decades is loud and clear.
