At one point in his coaching career, Jay Hopson had the choice between Southern Miss and Marshall, and ended up heading to West Virginia where he was a part of five conference championships.
Yet, deep down in his heart, he knew he should have went to Southern Miss instead. That's the message he gave to his new Southern Miss players in his first team meeting with them as their new head coach.
For Hopson, Southern Miss (where he spent six seasons as an assistant) is "home", and one of the first things he said to the players is that he won't be leaving Hattiesburg on his own accord..and while a lot of coaches say that, from Hopson, it sounds as genuine as it gets.
