You don't have to be a huge Minnesota (or Western Michigan) fan to know that PJ Fleck can take just about anything and relate it to his team.
The Row the Boat philosophy he has taken with him from Kalamazoo to Minnesota is undoubtedly one of his trademarks, but there are things like that that permeate throughout the culture of Fleck's program.
Fleck, who went to college to be an elementary school teacher, took their team meeting the night before their match up with Illinois to read a children's book entitled Everyone Poops.
You might be wondering what the relevance that may have to a bunch of college football players. But as Fleck explains, it does tie into his 0-2 team in a way.
"We actually had a team meeting last night, which was kind of a funny team meeting, where I read them a book - Everyone Poops. I know that sounds crazy because we didn't play very well, but poop can be used as fertilizer to grow."
"Here in Minnesota, we have lots of farms, and that poop is actually manure and help with the best fruit and vegetables, and that's what we talked about last night."
"You guys know me," Fleck told reporters in attendance. "I'm an elementary school teacher at heart. It was a very unique team meeting. I think we go the message across because they went out there and played okay."
Fleck's Gophers were able to rebound after their slow start to the 2020 season with a 41-14 win over Illinois on Saturday.
