Just in case you weren’t watching the Memphis vs. Western Kentucky game last night (and shame on you if that’s the case), the Hilltoppers pulled off an interesting fake kneel play that needs to be shared.

With an interim head coach in defensive coordinator Nick Holt, and a first-time play caller in 29-year old Bryan Ellis (who has served as the pass game coordinator / wide receivers coach under Jeff Brohm) you knew there were going to be some fun wrinkles in the game plan, but when they pulled off this with under a minute left in the half, Twitter went nuts.

At first everything seems nice and calm, but then chaos ensues as a ball carrier squirts out from behind the bigs with the ball for a big gain.

There’s sure to be some mixed feelings from coaches about this one, but you’ve got to admire the creativity it took to craft and call this one.

Ellis also dialed up a tackle screen for a fat guy TD, so there was clearly plenty of fun to go around for everyone.

WKU went on to win The Boca Raton Bowl in a 51-31 shootout over Memphis.
